THE RAILING OF SHEEP.
The Ellesmere, A. and I'. Association lias decided to write to tlic Minister for Itnilivay» rcsardinx a complaint made by one of its members about the railing of sheep. The shecpowner concerned is .Mr. T!ounie, who stated at the last meeting of .the association that ho had lately iiad occasion' to send a number of sheep by rail for shipment, and had asked the railway traffic manager if lie would allow tlia fiheep to be taken through from JJoyle.--ton by the morning passenger train', as they would probably arrive in Lyl.tellou ■too late for shipment if sent by i.,» ordinary stock train. Tho statiomnastcv at Doyleston was willing to have the truck attached to the morning passenger train provided that the traffic manager would give his consent, which the latter declined to do, stating that the sheep would have to bo sent , by tho stock train on the preceding day. The sheep had therefore to stand in thp open truck for about.twenty-four hours in cold, wet weather. ,f. Henderson instanced a enso in which sheep for shipment had to remain in the truck from one afternoon until late in the afternoon of tho following day.
