I .have caused inquiry to bo made 1 jrogarding Ihe conditions governing the jimpoi'i'ation of frozen meat into all iinromean countries and Amcrica, and have ,'kupt in touch with every alteration mado [in these '.'emulations. The results have' (been duly reported to the Government, iwho are thus in possession if full information on the subject. As regards 'Germany, my inquiries lead 1110 to conclude that that country will be the last ','to make any concession, and it will be 'very difficult to overcome' the objections ■ against frozen meat 011 the part of. the , Government. The regulations require car,cassS3 to be imported whole, and all the 'internal organs must be present in their .natural state of attachment. The duty ■is uik. '15 per 1000 kilns. In the case of '■France, there are indications that the importations of frozen meat may eventually be permitted, "as a certain" section of the people havo expressed a desire, for cheaper food. In my opinion, franco' is ■likely to prove our best market, and I ani giving due attention to this in''connection with my negotiations."
