To-day (Juno 23) is the- seventeenth birthday of Edward Albert, Prince of iWiilos, the heir-apparent to (he Throne of England. His Uoynl Highness, who was only created Prince of Wales last year, is also Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl nf Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles, Grand Steward Seneschal of Scotland, Duke of Saxony, and Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Vyi till this year he has served as a cadet in the Royal Navy. Mr. .Ins. .Allen, M.P., who is to take a holiday in the South Pacific islands, left Auckland for Australia on Wednesday. Mrs. Maginuity, wife of Jlr. .T. H. Maginnity, daughlor-in-law of the late Mrs. .loh'n Masinnity, of Wellington, arrived from San Francisco by the Maitai yesterday. Captain and Mrs. Logan, of Vancouver, 8.C., who are on an extensive tour of the Pacific Islands, arrived by the Maitai at Wellington yesterday. They procoed to Sydney by the Manuka to-day. Mr. H. E. HoHaday, representing the Pacific Export Company, of San Fraiicisco, arrived at Wellington by the- Maitai yesterday. Mr. Holladay is visiting New' Zealand and Australian ports to inquire into the possibilities of opening up trade, with San Francisco. Mr. P. G. Easson, of Wellington, returned by the Maitai yesterday after an extended tour of America.
