A kinematograph view of yesterday's review at Newtown Park was taken by West's and Royal Picture Proprietary. Tho film, between 400 ft. and 500 ft. •in length, will be exhibited when ready.
A Wnitara Press Association telegram states that recent developments in connection with rlfo treatment of iroiuand on the Waitara foreshoro are creating considerable interest. The Messrs. Curtis, who are connected with American capitalists, have had terms placed before them giving the.m a right to work the sand from the beach, the main point of which is 6d. f.er ton royalty on the manufactured article, with 100 per cent, extra if the sand is removed more than four miles av;ay from the beach for treatment. The lease, loaded with improvements, will have to be secured under public competition.
A sharp shock of earthquake was experienced at 2.15 o'clock this morning:.
At 9 o'clock yesterday morning the Miramar residents gathered in large numbers at the site where the Town Hall is to bo erected. Here the Mayor, Mr. J. Brodie, carried out the usual formula connected with the laying of foundationstones, and made a neat little speech suitable to the occasion, declaring that tho ceranony was a link in the chain of general rejoicing at tho Coronation of the King, that would, ere many hours had passed, encircle the earth. Tho National Anthem was then sung. Mr. J. P. Luke, member for the Suburbs, also delivered a brief address. The building is situated in York Street, and it will accommodate between 250 and 300 people. Its cost will be about .£7OO.
Annoyance was caused to a section of the large audience present at the Coronation concert in the Town Hall last evening by the niiml)er of people who began to leave the hall after the fourth and fifth items. When it is considered that hundreds had to be turned nwuy from the doors between 7.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. (many of them doubtless lovers of good music), and that the concert terminated at 9.20 p.m., those who left after the first halfliour might have considered their leilows.
During the run down from San Francisco to Wellington the sum of ,£9 Us. 7d. wt.s collected qu board the K.M.S. Maitai in aid of the Shipwreck Belief Fund of New Zealand.
An interesting littlo ceremony was carried out at Kastlxnirno yesterday to celebrate the Coronation. Tho Mayor (Mr. H. W. Short) planted the first of an avenue of trees on the Rona Bay Parade. A number of spectators were present, and the Mayoress, on declaring the tree "well and truly planted," was enthusiastically cheered. Afterwards, at tho school grounds, the children saluted tho flag, and tho National Anthoui was sung.
At San Francisco this trip R.M.S. Maitai was fitted' with a new wireless machine of the same power as her old one, but more compact. Tho new machine worked well, but. owinj; to pressure of business amongst the various stations on the Pacific Coast, long-distance sending was not tried. On tho run <lov;n to Wellington tho steamer Willicliniiia (bound from Ilonolulu to 'Frisco), was "spoken" at a distance of 900 miles. The Aorangi was "picked up" one day out from Papeete to Snn Francisco, communication being maintained for two nights afterwards. The Mariposa w,is also spoken. When tho Mailai was 570 miles from Wellington messages were exchanged with tho local station-
