AN.INQUIRY AND AN ARREST.; (By Tclccraph,—Press Association.! Eltham, Juno 12. An inquiry was held to-day, boforo Mr. Kenrick, S.M., touching a five on January 23, which resulted in tho burning down of a farmhouse, belonging to Mr. John Robertson, which was occupied by him and a slmro milker, named Nicholas Albert Maddern. Robertson had tho house and contents insured in tho NewZealand Office for .£IBO, the claim beinn immediately settled. Maddern also had a policy in tho Guardian for JCIGO on the furnituro and effects, including a piano belonging to Robertson, which was already insured. Maddern's claim was not settled, pending inquiry. Tho Magistrate found that tho house was wilfully set on fire, with intent to defraud tho Guardian Company. Maddern, was subsesquently arrested.
