THE BIBLE AND THE SCHOOLS.
g, . DR. GIBB AND THE HON. GEO. FOWLDS. Concluding last evening a eulogistic address upon the Authorised Version of the English Bible and the part it had played in moulding civil life, tho Hon. Geo. Fowlds said that no doubt Dr. Gibb would nsk him: "Why, recognising all these properties in the Bible, do yen keep it out of the public schools;" This, said the Minister for Education, was not tho time or place to discuss that question. Let it suffice that, in his- own mind and conscience, he knew of very good reasons why the Bible should not bo admitted to the school?. "I said, brethren, that this is" a religious service," remarked Dr. Gibb, "and h> it is, and Mr. Fowlds may bo thankful for it after that challenge! 1 heartily appreciated, and no doubt so did you, everything that he (Mr. Fowlds) said, up to that last sentence. I, and I am sure so do you, very heartily reprobate that last sentence."
