OUTCRY ABOUT THOSE MAILS.

SHOPKEEPERS' OPINIONS. "A scandalous imposition," was the phrase applied to a portion of Wellington's mail service by Mr. L. M'Kcnzio nt yesterday's meeting of the Welling, ton Shopkeepers' Association. He went on to say that a mail steamer arrived in Auckland on Sunday, half an hour before the Main Trunk train left for Wellington, and tho mail was not put aboard. It seemed disgraceful to those responsible that they could not have got that mail on to the train. It was an important matter, and a serious thing to Wellington and the places served by distribution from heroHe moved:—

"That this meeting of shopkeepers makes emphatic protest against the manner in which all business people south of Auckland receive tho English mail, and considers that immediate steps should be taken to get a quicker and more regular distribution."

Mr. H. H. Seaton seconded. It was most annoying, ho said, that when a boat arrived half an hour before the departure of tbo train, the mail was allowed to miss. "This is not the first time it has happened, is it?" he queried of Mr. M'Kcnzie. Mr. M'Kouzic: "No; not a month goes by without it," Mr. Seaton: "You would think the Government could have put on an engine and van to catch up to tho express. I am sure a person running could catch up to it at times." The motion was carried, and the resolution is to bo sent to the Welling, ton Chamber of Commerce- and tlio Postmaster-General.
