FORM AT ELLERSLIE

fSy Telegraph-Press Association.! Auckland, April 11. Misty fog hung over Ellerslie this morning, making it very hard to distinguish the horses. All work was done on the course proper outside the trestles, which ivas in fairly good order. NOTES AND COMMENTS. [Bγ Glencoe.] The excellence of Lady Medallist's track work at Randwick seems to indicato.that she has a chance, second only to that of Comedy King in whatever races she starts in at the A..1.Q. meeting, which commences next Saturday. Her gallop over a mile (only a quarter of a second outside the season's record at Randwick) shows how very well the brown mare is at present. Stevens won in'- such a convincing manner at Awapuni that, if trainer A. JI. AVrighl can keep him sound, he is almost sure to score, again in a very short while. His next appearance will he in the Hack AVclter at Fcilding. In this event the hurdle horse Reumac is top-weight. Borrosov, by Malstcr from Beresina— a well-known New Zealand mare who subsequently won the Oakleigh Plate for D. J. Price —was successful in the. Juvenile Stakes at Rosehill. This is the first foal that the Now Zealand mare has produced. A promising two-year-old colt by Sir Laddo out of Lako Placid, dam of Frisco, broko his leg while being handled at Tutaeuui last week. Though she has been accepted for both at Ellerslie and Feilding, the opinion is held locally that • Kquitas will bo found amongst the starters at llio latter meeting. Goodwin Park, 7st. Dili., is greatly fancied locally for tbo Fcilding Cup. The Hawcra-owncd gelding made .such a creditable showing in the AVanganui Cup, in which her trainer thought that she was unlucky to lose, that it is little wonder that she is such a prime fancy for the Feilding event. The Grcymouth race's open to-day, and will be concluded on Saturday nest.!

Nominations for the Marlhorongh Racing Club's Autumn meeting close on Saturday next. Five horses were taken south by the Mnraroa last night: Iramii and ' Gold Lace, in charge of J. AV. Lowe; Penates and GoMliird, in charge of C. Pritchard; and Morrivoni,.. in charge of J. Avers. Mr. H. W. Kitchingham, of Greymouth, a well-known patron of trotting, is at present on a business visit to Wellington. Ribstone Pippin, The ■ Native, and several other useful performers, are engaged in the hurdle events at Trentham. Mr. J. B. Reid will be among the sellers at the Randwick sales. He will probably be found among the bidders when the yearling colt by l'ositano from Diploma (dam of Lady Medallist) conies into the ring. It is rather surprising that Mr. Reid did not previously secure Lady Medallist's sister Moorilla, who was originally sold for 150 guineas. Though one of the owners of Penza backed the Finland mare for a good amount, to win the Ricoarton double, the mare will not bo taken south. T. I'ritchard will ride both Penatos and Goldbird.in their engagements at R:ccarton. Antoinette, who is favourite for the Easter Handicap at Auckland, is said to be quite sound this week, and has made a complete recovery from the slight lameness wliioh she showed Jast week. The excellent acceptances received for the first day's events at tho Wairarapa Racing Club's meeting augur well for the success of the fixture. In one of the events all the horses handicapped mado tho acceptance, and. in another event, there was only one defection. MARYBOROUGH RAGINC CLUB. The Marlborough Racing Club's programme for this year's Autumn meeting (to be held at Riverlands on Maj--3 and 4) is a creditable one. It, includes a-cup of 300 sovs., and other races, ranging from .EGO to £150. During the past month the club has spent a considerable sum of money in enlarging the totalisator shed, putting up a new jockeys' room, extending the weigh-ing-room, and painting the whole of the buildings on the course. It is anticipated that this year's meeting will be a record one, and his Excellency tho Governor has accepted an invitation from the stewards to be present. Nominations close with Mr. L. Griffiths, Blenheim, on Saturday next. FIXTURES. April 12 and l.i—Grey mouth J.C. Autumn. April 15 and 17—AVairarapa E.C. Autumn. April 15, 17, and IS-Aucklaud R.C. Autumn.
