On x'ucsilay night a fire occurred at 29 Henry Street, Kilbirnic, a dwelling occupied and owned by Mr. F. Robinson. The flames were confined to fho front rooms, and were suppressed with tho assistance of neighbours. Tho building is covered by a policy for JJSOO in the South British Office and tho contents arc insured for »E2OO in the Liverpool and London and Globe Office. A proposal has been made to prepare an address from tho women of New Zealand for presentation to her Majesty the Queen 'at the coming Coronation. A meeting for the purpose of making (he necessary arrangements has been called for this afternoon by advertisement, is suggested that tho address shall bo signed by representatives of women's societies and others in each centre of the Dominion. Native birds along the Tararua Ranges, says Mr. Field. Si.P., are becoming very scant. lie attributes this to tho gradual clearance of native bush from tho lower slopes, where tho birds principally have their feeding-grounds. Every Friday and Tuasday, commencing to-morrow, at the Fruit Exchange, lilair Street, a sale of fresh and corned dairy-fed pork will be held, The pork will be sold in joints to suit all purchaser*.
