Mr. M'Mahon,'in moving the adopH.inik &f£tho report, said that last year ■, the.-union undertook great things which had resulted in financial loss, and was at tho present time in trouble. He was.confident they would overcome tho existing crisis. From an amateur point of view the amateurs wcro not dead by any means, and ho was firmly of opinion that they would get back. to their original position. However, there was a strenuous timo ahead. They wero better without men who looked to tho gate, for men who .deserted them for tho sake of thirty shillings a day would desert to someone else for thirty-ono shillings. By and by they would get back the public, who wcro leaving them because of statements with regard to the Rugby Union being "off colour" and to tho "scuttling" of the Rugby Union game. Other speakers wero equally optimistic with regard to amateurism regaining its position. Ono alleged that sixteen players were bought for over a hundred pounds each for the season.
