HIGH-POWER WIRELESS.
THE DOUBTLESS BAT STATION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, March 23. Tho high-power wireless telegraphy station for the North Island will be crccted in the vicinity of Doubtless Hay, and not near Auckland. From considerations of economy a site near the city was preferable, bill the many advantages of a possible urban situation were outweighed by the difficult and unfavourable topographical arrangements. Both Sydney and Suva are to be within tho rango of tho station, and in 110 part of the area within a radius of 00 miles of Auckland is there a spot from which an uninterrupted electrical view of both Australia and Fiji can be obtained. Five fruitless days were spent by Mr. J. Orchistou (Chief Engineer of Telegraphs) and Mr. Moons (engineer of tho Australasia Wireless Telegraph Company) in an endeavour to find a suitable situation for tho station near a centre of population. Abandoning their unsuccessful search, tho engineers went to Doubtless Day. The party returned to the city yesterday, and Mr. Orchistou informed a reporter that there had been no difficulty in finding good sites to tho westward of Doubtless Bay, and a provisional selection had beou mario of half a dozen sites from which a final selection would be marie by the Acting-Pdstmaster-General. The party will go to tho Bhilf .next week to select a site for the southern .high-power station.
