BURGLARIES IN HILL STREET.
TWO HOUSES VISITED. Some time 011 Wednesday night a burg«" lar or burglars visited the residence of Mr. W. C. Gasquoinc in Hill Street, and a so n house, two doors away, in which Messrs. 11.I 1 . J. nud C. J. Nathan reside, Ironi appearances it seems that Mr. Gasquoine's residence first received attention, cntranco being Rained through an unlocked window in the scullery. This window is 12ft. from the ground, and to reach it tho intruder obtained a laddor lrom n house iu oour.so of erection at Golder's Hill, dose by. There was .1 light in Mrs. Gastjuoine's room all night, and site was await? at 'J a.m. and again at 4 n.ui., but heard nothing unusual, this being probably on account of tlio fact that tlie burglar confined his. operations to tho downstairs portion of the house. Articles missing include two pairs of boots and a collection of fruit and tabla knives and forks, also a small sum of money. Entrance to the residence of Messrs. Nathan's was also effected through the scullery window. The occupants of the house retired early, and until yesterday morning were not aware of th>2 presence ol the uninvited visitor. Cash amounting to .Co 10s. was secured here by tho burglar, who, in addition, helped himself to a pair of field-glasses, a ring, two pairs of gloves, and a box of cigars. Tbs police are investigating the matter.
