QUEEN'S STATUE.
e — NEW POSITION DETERMINED. The City Council last evening adopted tlw following report by its engineer (Mr. W. H. Morion) in regard to the removal and re-erection of the Queen's Statue: "Plans and specifications have been prepared for the removal and re-erection of the Queen's Statue. The council some time r^o'decided that the statue is to be crectcu iu Kent Terrace, in ;v position to be reported upon by nie. I would recommend that tho statue be placed in tho first asphalted portion of the reservofrom Courtenay l'lace. Right through tho centre of the.reserve there are a 12in. watermain, a 10in. sewage main, and a 4in. airmain. The plans (submitted) show the position of these mains, and tho naturo of the foundations has been arranged so as to permit of access being obtained to the water-main if required. "Owing to the substantial manner iu which the statue has been erected iu its present position I estimate the cost of removal and re-erection at about i 350, the cost of takiug down being* a very large item in the expenditure.
