PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(From Oar Special Correspondent.) Palmerston N., March 11. A number of young men, members of the Methodist Biblo Class, paid a visit to tho residence of Mr. G. H. Bennett, who leaves on a health trip to England on March 23, and presented him with a valuable Kaiapoi travelling rug, as a mark of appreciation of bis services to the class. Mr. Bennett is to be accorded a farewell social by his citizen friends hero on Friday ovening next. All (he shops of Talmerston, except fruiterers and the like, will close at G p.m. after Monday next. This has been brought about by a requisition of a majority of the storekeepers. Tho members of the Foxlon Roman Cathob'e parish have presented tho Rev. Father Kelly with a pony, a new gig, a set of harness, and a. travelling outfit as a mark of their esteem. A man named .iohu Sullivan was brought up at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, charged with stealing XI 10s. from a local hotel. A remand was asked for by the police and granted, bail being allowed in one surety of .£SO, or two of .C 25 each. Yesterday two (cams of girls from the Dnnncvirke High School came to Palmcrston, and played tennis matches with the local High School girls, tho visitors winning by six games to five. The Dannevirkc girls were entertained at afternoon lea by their opponents. The National Dairy Show Committee of the Manawalu A. and P. Association met on Saturday afternoon (o consider tenders for the new produce hall, 100 ft. by 60ft., which is to bo erected to accommodate butler and cheese and homo industries at the next dairy show.
