YACHTING.

P.N.Y.C. RACES. On Saturday afternoon the Port Nicholson Yacht Club started races for first, second, and third-class yachts, but owing to the wind (a light southerly) dropping, the races,had to be postponed. Most of the yachts carried top-snils, and, from the shore, they presented a very pretty sight, The wind left the yach'ts when ■they-were -off 'Somes;' Isjand;"and shortly afterwards, fhey" were taken in tow by some' passing launches. The Wellington Cruising Club's race •was also postponed owing to the wind dropping. i.

CHALLENGE CUP RACE. The race for the Inter-Club Challenge I Cup, between the To Aro Sailing Club and the Heretaunga Boating Club, was held on Saturday afternoon, and was won bv the former club. None of the Heretaunga Club's boats competed. The start of this race was a very interesting and pretty one. All the little boats wero cruising round, behind the starting-line, and as soon as the- gun went off the crews hoisted their spinnakers and glided away with the fresh southerly breeze following them up. Tin's race was finished before the wind dropped, and was won by the Kaitare, with the Nan second, and Redwing third. The Kaitare held the lead all round the course, and the Nan held second position all round. The handicaps and finishing times of the boats were: Kaitare (scr.j, 4hr. 52min.; Nan (Imin.), -Ihr. 55min. Usee.; Redwing (smin.), shr. 9min. 30see.; Winifred (13min.), Shr. 20min. tSsec. The Lotus and Dorecn did not complete the course. ".

LAUNCH RACE. The Motor Boat Club got off a launch race on Saturday under perfect weather conditions. The race was won by the Puriri, with the Tender second, and the Scotia third. The llox and the Maui exceeded their time limit. The starting times were: Tender, So'clock, Maui 3.10, Manutai 3.JG p.m., Puriri 3.27} p.m., Ilex 3.31 p.m., Scotia, 3.33 p.m., AYaione 3.59 p.m.

FOOTBALL. At a meeting of Palmcrstou High School ex-pupils (writes our correspondent) it was decided to form a High School Old Boys' Club, and to enter teams in the Mauawatu Rugby Union championship games. The following officers wero elected;— Patron, Mr. J. E. A'emou; president, Mr. F. Foote; vice-presidents, Messrs. AV. H. Collingwood, AV. Rutherfurd, Jas. Young, J. Murray, R. Gardner, and R. M'Nab; captain, Mr. R. AValdegrave; vicecaptain, Mr. J. Hardic; secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. Gardner; committee, Messrs. J. M. Morris, K. Eglinton, M. AValdegrave, and C. Smith. TlVo club is likely to prove a very strong one, including several representative players, and it is expected a 'very fast first fifteen will bo put in the field.
