ST. JOHN'S ANNUAL REPORT. The committee of the St. John's Rugby Football Club state in their third annual report that the 1910 season marks a forward movement in tho club, as it is the first in which a team has 'Men entered for the junior.competition. After winning''the third-class championship in 1909, it was considered advisable to play in a higher grade the following season, and that step amply justified' by the result. The 'niimbor of members now on tho roll is 53, an increase of 12 for. the Financially,'.\he "club continues to be' on a firm footing, as the season closed With a substantial credit balance. Owing to the increase of members at the commencement of the season, it was decided to enter three teams—junior, third, and fourth class—for tho championships. This meant that 45 players were required each Saturday, and it must be admitted that on many occasions the teams played short because of the insufficient number of players available. The fourth team was especially .handicapped.in. this, respect, as frequently its men were taken to fill up vacant positions in the other teams.. The result of matches played was as\ follows:—Junior: Played 11, won 5, lost 6; points for 70, against 110. Third: Played 13; won 2, lost 10, drawn 1; points for 20, against 197. Fourth: Played 11, won 1, lost 9, drawn 1;-points for 12, against 193.- In junior representative matches the club' was renreseiitud by one member. G. H. Elliffe,'club captain, and centre three-nuarter.
At the end of" the season the. club, in conjunction with St. John's Bible Class, held a banquet in Scott's Rooms; and a very enjoyable evening was spent. In conclusion, the committee, recommends that for the coming season a gymnasium be .secured, so that members may go into proper training,' and be'better able to uphold the honour of the club in the championship matches. The committee is of opinion that with such training the teams should be well able to hold their ; own in the same grades as entered for last year. .
