: ~*~ CITY COUNCIL MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the City Council, held-last evening, was attended :by-the.Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M,P.)„ and Councillors Luke, Trevor, Smith,' Cohen, Atkinson, Thompson, Barber, Fitzgerald, Hindmarsh, M*'Laren, Shirtcliffe, Fletcher, and' Morrah. The Finance and Property Committee recommended that the corporation dog catcher bo provided with an official cap, and badge, l 'tb'i'be worn whilst otii'dut.V'j" that liability for damago caused by storm-water-at Ballcna Bay last Saturday bo denied;'that Mr. John Duthie bo informed that his offer to replace a portion of a breastwork encroaching on tho street at Upper Dixon Street, in ferroconcrete or brick at his own cost, be accepted, provided it is erected in conformity with the portion already built in brick. Tho report was adopted. . The Power Stations ' and Tramways Committee recommended that a small gal-vanised-iron tramway shelter be erected at' the' ond of. the Kilbirnie tunnel on the Hotaitai sido early in.the next financial year;'; that a concession ticket be introduced on the Oriental Bay section, to provide for a ljd. fare from Oriental Bay to Winder's Corner, and vice versa; that two .tramway stopping-places on the Oriental Bay section be altered, to provide for a stopping-place opposite the Te Ara Baths; that the tramways by-law (mainly consolidating), be adopted.—The report was adopted. The Abattoirs Committee recommended that, tho amended abattoir by-laws, as drafted by the city solicitor, bs adopted. —The report was adopted. The Baths and City Reserves Committee recommended. that the Wellington Cricket Association be granted permission to make a charge of Gd. for admission to the Basin Reserve on the last day of tho final cricket match of the championship; that the following charges bs fixed for the use of v water at' the Karori Cemetery in connection with the erection of concrete walls, monuments, etc. :-9 x 3, 9 x 4, and 9 x G, Is. Gd.; 9x 9, 25.; 12 x 9 and over, 2s. Gd.; that tho City Engineer be instructed to erect a shower at the bathing shed at North Kilbirnie; that the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association bo granted the use of • the Te Aro Baths on Saturday afternoon, March 18 or March 25, for a carnival, in aid of the funds of tho furnishing of the Y.W.C.A. Hostel, free of charge; that they havo cancelled all the permits for golt practice on Kelburne Park, as it is reported that the turf is being damaged by such play; that they havo granted the Girls' College permission to use cricket wickets on Kelburne Park, on payment of a preparation fee of ss. per wicket—Adopted. The By-laws Committee recommended that tho owners of property, whose fences encroach on certain public streets, and who have beon already notified to that effect, be. informed that if they do not set back their fences to tho correct street alignment, a charge of 10s. per annum for sections of a width of 50 feet or less, and los. for sections over 50 feet, will be made. The committee renorted that they had given consideration to tho question pf the installation of call bells in the houses of the Island Bav volunteer liremen. They recommended that a direct telephone bo installed at the house of the brigade foreman, and that call bells be placed in tho houses of the firemen. The estimated cost of this work was:-Direct telephone, .£27; call bells, .£2o;' total, There-port was adopted.
