WELLINGTON CATHOLIC CLUB.
The twenty-fifth half-yearly meeting of the 'Wellington , Catholic Club was 'held last evening in St. Patrick's Hall. This meeting marked the silver, jubilee of the half-yearly meetings of the club. The chair was occupied by the V.P.; Bro. A. H. Casey. • . The report stated that the adjuncts of the club, viz., cricket, tennis, and dramatic work were in a flourishing condition, the first-named especially, as the team is now leading in the third-grade competition by six points, having won 17 out 'of 18 games played. The balancesheet showed a substantial "credit ' balance. j . '. - In moving-tho adoption-of the report, tho chairman announced that new club rooms Would bo in course iof construction within the coming six months. ; The following officers were electcd for the ensuing half-year:—Patron, his Grace Archbishop Redwood; . president, YenRev. Father O'Shea, S.M., V.G.;. .vicepresidents, Rev. Fathers Venning, Quinii, Hickson, Dcvoy; the Very Rev. Dean Itegnaiilt, and Messrs. Kennedy, Casey, O'Connor. M'Gowan, and Rev. Bro. Justin; spiritual director, Rev. Father Yenning, S.M.; hon. sec., Mr. M. O'Kane; hon. treasurer, Mr. L. Leydon; executive, Messrs. A. H. Casey (chairman), Dnnn, B. Leydon, M'Kenzie, M'Namara, Thomas; hon. auditors, Messrs. S. J. Moran and J. F. O'Leary. Messrs. A. 11. Casey and M. O'lCane were presented with diplomas of honour for meritorious service. : ' Tho Colonial ' Auxiliary ■ Porces long service medal has been awarded to Col-our-Sergeant A. Frandi, Zealandia Rifles, who lias 20 years aud 15 days' service to his credit. Last evening Mr. W. A. Woodger was the recipient of a pair of field glasses from the staff of the l'etpne railway station, on tho occasion of his departure on a world's tour. In connection With the construction of tho Charlotte.Street loop line, which the Mayor stated on Wednesday would bo : commenced probably aL*>i;t a month hence, the City Council - has decided to apply for a variation of tho Order-in-Council .under which this work was originally authorised. Tho variation will applv to section six of the order, which specified Unit .'the line should bo completed in 190 S. Tho tramway when laid will depart by eight feet three inches from tho line originally selected, but this docs not necessitate any. variation of tho order as, underits provisions, tho Minister'for Public Works has power to authorise a departure of not more than f .en fw. f rom the original line,
