Tho steamer Beacon Grange collided with the Ruahine, oft Las l'almas, and . cut fivo feet into the latter above the . waterliue. (Rec. January 30, 0.40 a.m.) ■ London, January 29. The Rualiine will bo detained a week at Las Palmas for repairs. [Tho Beacon Grange is a steel-screw steamer of -1833 tons, 370 ft. long, 471t. Cm. beam, and 18ft. Sin. deep. She was uuilt by Workman, Clark, and Co., Ltd., Belfast, in 1698, to tho order of her present owners, the F.H.S. Line. The R-uahino is ouo of the most reccnt udditions to .the New Zealand Shipping Company s fleet, aud is similar iu sizo and construction to the Rotoraa. She is a twin-screw steamo rof 10,000 tons, -180 ft. long, 60ft. beam, Wft. deep. Sho was built by Messrs. Denny Bros., Dumbarton, and launched from their yards on August U, 1909. The Ruahine arrived at Wellington on her maiden voyage from London on January 10, 1910. Her last visit to Wolligton was on November 17,. on which date she left hero for London. She arrived at Home on December 2S, and left London again on January 21, 1911, for Wellington, via way ports. Tho vessel was due hero about March 5.] STEAMER ASHORE. Ottawa, Ja nu any 2". The Canadian Pacific Railway Comf'pany's steamer Toes is' ashore at Barkley Sound, Vancouver Island. Tho passengers were rescued. • [The Tees is a steel-screw steamer of 679 tons, fitted vtith electric light and wireless telegraphy.] THE STEAMER EASTERN. 'POSITION MORE SERIOUS... Brisbane, January 28. . Another unsuccessful ■ attempt has been made to refloat tho steamer Eastern, which is ashore at Salamander Bank. The vessel's position is now more serious. The passengers havo landed, and aro proceeding on their journey by train. Tons of rico have been jettisoned. Fifteen to 20 per cent, is being quoted for the Eastern's reinsurance. THE AOTEA'S CARGO. (Rec. January 29, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 28. Sixty-five per cent, is being quoted on tlio Aotea's cargo. Tho latter vessel's upper 'tween deck cargo is being landed practically. undamaged. Tho lower hold if; full of .water, but tho prospects of salvage aro favourable. [It will be. remembered that the Shaw, Savill, aud Albion Company's Aotea went ashore very near Cape Town on January 22, whilst on a voyage from London to Wellington, via Auckland.] THE COTTAGE CITY. MISSING BOAT FOUND, (Rec. January 29, 5.5 )>.m.) New York, January 28. The missing boat and passengers of the Cottage City, which grounded at Cape Mudge, in British Columbia, in a blind--ing.snow storm, have been picked up by the United States steamer Snoshomish.
