CABINET AUTHORISATIONS.
ROADS, RAILWAYS, BRIDGES.The chief work of Cabinet yesterdaj" —or, at all events; that portion of it which was. communicated last evening to the press —was the authorisation of the expenditure of £14,600 for roads in remote parts of the Dominion, to the number of about thirty; of £4550 for various small bridges, and of £10,67? on railway branches now in progress* Of tho £1-1,600 for roads, £1500 is to', open aip blocks of laud in the Stratford district. Among other items passed were th? following:— - £275 for the installation of an- ex< peri'mental plant at the School of Mines at Thames. Approval of a new chapel and work-: shop at the Invercargill Gaol. Erection of a new school at Selwyn 4 Auckland. ! £350 for additions to the school at" Darfield, Christchurch. Among the roads, railways, sni bridges included •in the total authorisations mentioned above are the follow* ing" ' The JKai Whaka 'section of the nortb of Auckland railway; the Bickersdorf and the Otamatea sections. (The total amount authorised on these sections IS £8000.) m , £750 for the Gisborne to Tolaga Bay, R-oad. £762 for the Midland railway. £1300 for the Pukekawa Road, Rag< lan. _ . £1.000 for the Pongaroa to Waione Road. ... , It- was also decided to invite tenders for cottages and houses for workers on the Kawakawa-Graliamstown railway; for the Mokau River Bridge _at the Kahuwera. Road; for the Big .Hill tunnel on the Lawrence-Roxburgh railway; and for the cartage (for one year) otthe State coal in Wellington.
