A SUGGESTION PROM CANTERBURY.
In connection with the Hospital Board's Conference, which is being arranged for Juno next, the Canterbury Board has sent in the following remits a copy of which- was read at the meeting of the Wellington Board yesterday:— "That in view of the increasing burden upoii this board of _niaintaining degenerates and their offspring] and in view of the danger to the community both from a physiological and moral point of view, this lioard urges upon the-Govern-ment the necessity for the founding of a State school for dcfectivo girls, similar to that for boys at Oamaru, and a State homo for women of feeble mind, with power of detention in each case; and that this resolution be treated as a remit to the forthcoming conference, and forwarded to other • boards at once for consideration." In reply, to a question, the chairman of the board (Mr. J. G. AV. Aitkeu) said that the question of representation at tbe conjing conference would, bo settled later'oil?.
