KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
LIGHTING PROBLEMS PENDING. The fortnightly meeting of tho Karori Borough Council was held last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. C. I. Dasent), and Councillors Cathie. Standen, Hildreth, Warmsley, Burn, and Welling. The application of the Karori Athletic Club for permission to hold an cvenini' sports meeting on January 25 (to-day) was granted. . In connection with a request from the Tramways Board for frco transport over tho borough tramway on Sunday, February 5, on which date the band is engaged to play at Karori, tho council agreed, that permission be granted, on the understanding that the concession must not bo regarded as a precedent. Tho managing director of tho Wellington Gas Company (Mr. Wni. Ferguson), replying to tho counciljs letter intimating its preparedness to enter into an agreement with tho company for a supply of gas, but pointing out that it could not. bind itself to tako an immediate supply for public purposes, asked for an interpretaion of the term "immediate," stating that the foundation of tho agreement rested upon the supply of gaß for public purposes. The company was' prepared to' consider an installation if the council would agree to tako supplies for public purposes within a reasonable time after the pipes had been laid, but was not,prepared to proceed upon any understanding of a more indefinite nature. On tho suggestion of tlie Mayor, tho council agreed to defer further consideration, of the matter till the next meeting of the" council, his Worship in tho meantime to confer with the Act-ing-Mayor of Onslow (Councillor-. Lyn-1 ueoerjOj on the subject.
