A'sum of £130 was taken at the gates on the occasion of tho Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club's carnival and fireworks display on Monday. The gathering was m every way successful. .At ri mooting.of tho Park Beautifymg Committee to-night, final arrangements will bo mado for the fete to bo held next week. The Mayor has collected quite a substantial sum for trophies for the gathering.
A sum of £67 12s. has just been discovered to bo lying ■in the bank ,to the credit of tho Hawko's Bay Flood Relief I'und. As this fund was raised thirteen years ago, it is suggested that the balance in hand might bo devoted to the l'ark Beautifying Fund.
Great interest is being manifested in the conference of representatives of local bodies and- chambers of commerce, to be held here on Thursday to discuss the .railway service in tho Wairarapa. Messrs. Buchanan, Hogg, and Ross, M.lYs, have been invited to be present-, and a time-tablo prepared by. tho latter will bo discussed in. detail. A strong deputation will bo appointed to wait upon .the' Minister for Railways. Meanwhile the proposed alteration in the timo-table has been delayed.
Most of the visiting lawn tennis players who have been taking part in the provincial tourney at Masterton leavo for their homes to-day. The tournament has been in every way successful.
The chief census enumerator for Masterton and the Wairarapa (Mr. W. Sollar) has been officially notified that the agricultural statistics are to bo collected this year with the census.
