WILD SCENE IN COURT.
, PRISONER ASSAULTS A WARDER.' . ,- (By Telegraph.—Press -Association.!' Auckland, November 28. A young Australian named Frank Logan, who is serving four years' imprisonment in Auckland Gaol for breaking and. entering and theft, was charged at the Police Court this morning with assaulting the chief warder, : and striking . the latter,on tho mouth and threatening to' do for him as soon as he was liberated. The prisoner admitted the assault and asserted that the warder had singled him out for specially harsh treatment. The magistrate informed the prisoner that nothing that had happened could have justified tho assault. Prisoner: "Very well, I'll take the law into my own hands." The man was sentenced to fourteen days' bread and water and to forfeit marks .equivalent to sis months remission of sentence. When leaving tho dock Logan rushed the chief warder and attempted to grip him. by: the throat. He was speedily seized "by the? police and other warders and- replaced in the dock and' handcuffed. He was sentenced for the later assault to close confinement in irons for one month and to forfeit marks equivalent to sis months' remission of scn.fence. -
