WELLINGTON WOOL SALES.
SECOND OF THE SEASON. : VALUES WELL MAINTAINED. ' The second of this season's Wellington wool sales was held at the Town Hall yesterday. Speaking generally, values were well maintained, and the nature of tho transactions arc sufficiently indicated by tho brokers' reports. TheEe are as follow:— Dalgety and Company. Tho second sale of tho season was held in the Town Hall yesterday, when a total of 8283 hales was offered by the associated brokers, of which we submitted 3170 bales. The whole of our catalogue was sold under the hammer, with the exception of a small percentage. There was a large attendanco of buyers, representing all markets, and competition was exceedingly, keen throughout the sale. The wool opened up bright and attractive, and, with a few exceptions, was-sound and well grown; very few lots of log-stained being in evidence. Our catalogue comprised a very good selection, • including clips ■ from Wellington, - Wairarapa, Wanganui,, Manawatu, and Marlborough. Included in those from the last-named district were some- small lines of merino, which met with good competition, .and realised very satisfactory prices. Prices, as compared with last sale, showed, an advance of about' one halfpenny to a penny per lb. for clips • suitable for America, whilst other sorts were about on a par, but, of course, it must be borne in'mind that the selection of wool offered in this instance showed a good deal of improvement on last offering. We arc oleased to report that wc topped the market for a nice line of halfbred from Blenheim, on account of Mr. B. Coleman. Vernon, which realised 12d. The second sale of tho current season was held yesterday at the Town Hall, when. 8250 bales wero offered by the various brokers, our catalogue representing. 1700 bales. The break iu tho weather during the past fortnight was tho cause of the smaller offering. There was again a large number of buvers, and bidding, was very animated. There is not much change ■to record as compared with tho sale oh November 8, except that tho choicest bales offering felt tho advantage of a demand for American consumption, and medium crossbreds scmed to advanco in sympathy. Bradford and Continental buyers participatisg freely, the latter being exceptionally keen for tho finer grades, and pieces. Taken as a whole, the prices paid are from par to a farthing per lb. higher than last sale- on November 8, but, as before mentioned, it must be borno in mind that the condition of the wool was lighter in this sale.
