AUSTRALIAN LAND TAX.
ITS EFFECT ON CAPITAL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. London, November .27. The "Economist" declares that investors in Australian land companies have had their faith a little shaken by political affairs during tho last few months. It seems certain that the land tax will restrict new enterprise, but. the effect on capital already invested remains to be seen. The paper quotes a speech of Mr. David Murray, chairman, of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, and adds ■that it looks as if class legislation and discriminating taxation will almost certainly result, in the withdrawal of a considerable, proportion of capital.
