TOURNAMENT AT THE BASIN.
■ - ■ ■ .3 ' ■ This afternoon at the .Basin Reserve the Cadets and Boy Scouts' combined tournament is to take ■ place under the patronage of./.the Prime, Minis-, ter and Lady Ward, and the Mayor aiid Mrs. Wilford. ,A novel it-em is the Jire lighting competition, in /which • | scouts must .run SO yards, with a pint of water, jay .and light a fire, and boil the water. The tournament is said to be strong,on,the .comedy,side. "Barnum's Avenue" jp one of the main attractions, and will no doubt hold its o)» r n as a rendezvous for pleasure-seekers., will bo found Punch and Judy aiid Aunt Sally, the up-to-date "babyrack," a i'ifle range, etc. Ice cream, sweets, and afternoon tea will be obtainable 011 the ground;. and Highland dimcing, a gymnastic clisplay, and a band concert- .will all help, to make an enjoyable jifterripon. ' Admissiou for competitors ;a,nd judges' staff will be by' the fountain eiitrance ( while the general public-;\yin, be , admitted ,at any of the .other ; gates. ; A'formidable army, of -Bcoute and ,cadets' are. taking part,. In case of rain, the tournament'will be held in the Towai Hall. 'If it Is'necessary to, tako this step, a flagVill.be flown from the Town Hall from 11 a.m. '
