An admirable example of the kind of work which tells is to be found in the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. Charles Goodell, tho minister of Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church,' New York City. Dr. Goodell has been - pastor of Calvary Church for six j'ears, during which time tho membership , has increased from 1400' to 3100. The church seats 2200, and is usually' full, while the Sunday School has some eighteen hundred scholars. . Dr. Goodell has received .1500 members on trial and 2200 in full Connexion, and the annual sum rajsed for current .expenses is nearly £5000. . Much social work is undertaken by Calvary Church, which raises over £10,000 for benevolences every year, maintains a "free dispensary, where some 8000 patients are treated every year, and possesses . institutions for boys, girls, and men. Dr. Goodell ascribes tie success of his ministry mainly, to systematic pastoral visitation, and to the fact that every winter lie personally conducts a month of special revival services in his own church.
