The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's spring meeting was concluded to-day in fane weather. Tho attendance was very large, and though the returns aro not yet available, it probably constituted a* record. The totalisator investments for the day were £19,767 10s., as against £16,285 on _ the corresponding day last year, while the total for the • meeting was £50,889, as compared with £45,018 10s. last November. The track was again very fast, and some capital times were registered. In winning the Australasian Handicap Redchild established a saddle record for Australasia. Results:

Mr. James Wilson, jun., has decided to relinquish racing alid breeding, and to dispose of his Bonny Vale Estate and stud. NOTES AND COMMENTS. [Br Glencoe.], . ' The Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting will be concluded at Ellerslio to-day, when the principal event to be decided is the Ascot Handicap. Liquid 'Air. (Explosion—Toi Toi), formerly well known in this district, won a race at Fiji on October 29. • A feature' of the r&cing at Auckland to-day will bo this meeting of Prophet and Continuance in the Penrose Hurdles.

Wirral started in the Railway Handicap at Waipawa on Wednesday, and proved to bo as troublesome as ever at the barrior. Be first unseated his rider, and then galloped twice round the course before being recaptured. It is understood that Fighting Maid has changed hands, and will in future raco in the Gisborne district. Tho Dannevirko Racing Club's meeting takes place on Wednesday and Thursday next,' and, as good acceptances have been received for the first day's events, there is every prospect of tho* meeting being a successful one. S. Reid, T. Pritchard, 11. Hatch, and T. O'Brion loft for tho south last night, and will be riding at tho Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting at Riccarton to-day. Tho Lark sustained a very bad fall in tho Otaio Plato smash-up, and at' present ho has a lump on his back like a camel. It will be a surprise if ho races again. In tho Hurdles at Riccarton to-day ■Stayboy has been allowed Sib. for his defeat on Wednesday, and. ho meets ■ the other starters on much better terms. Ho should, however, encounter serious opposition from both Cov and Goldbird. Though burdened with a big weight, that pretty little mare, Gipsy Belle, is such a smart performer when well "that it will not come as a surprise to find her very prominent in tho Cressy Welter Handicap to-day. Outside* Sunburnt, who is unreliable, tho opposition is weak. Pilgrim's Way, who showed up remarkably well behind Dearest on tho first day at Riccarton, appears to be leniently treated in the Seymour Handicap to-day with Bst. 21b. On Saturday last ho was giving Dearest weight and tho latter lias sinco carried 9st. 101b. and won a raco. In tho Metropolitan Handicap on Monday last, Miss Mischief made tho pneo very strong for a mile, and slio alone waa responsible for thn smart time put up. Sho is in the Members'

Handicap of soven furlongs to-day, and H. Gray will bo 011 her instead of tho apprentice who had tho mount oil Monday. Formby and Equitas aro another pair from whom a good performance may be expected. Great diversity of opinion exists in the south as to which horso will win the Stead Cup. There aro seven assured starters, and all will carry strong support. The chailces of Los Angeles 9st., Maori King 9st;, and Danube 7st. 121b., appear to be excellent, and, as the unbeaten three-year-old has such a big pull in tho weights, 110 should go out favourite. Muircoek will carry Sir Geo. Clifford's colours in the Pioneer Handicap at Eiccarton to-day. Ho is a bay colt by Treadmill, from the speedy Kirriemuir, so that he lacks nothing on the score of breeding. Egotist, who did not start on tho second diiy of the Ellerslie meeting, is engaged to-day in the Gordon Handicap, five furlongs. R. Hanon had sis members of his team racing at Ellerslie last Satnrday. Three of thorn won, and another deadheated for first place, while, of the other two, one was second anu the other unplaced. An event that will be looked forward to with a good deal of interest is the Great Northern Derby, because, it is in this event that King Sonlt and Danube appear to be likely to meet for tho first time during their three-year-old career. Broadsword, carrying 9st. 121b., ran second in a six-furlong event at Williamstown on November 4. Another Now Zealand-bred horse, Masonic, was third in the same race. Attention of owners is drawn to the Ashhurst Racing Club's programme, which appears in this. issue. The stewards of the Auckland Racing Club met on Thursday afternoon, to consider a complaint received that Deeley crossed Apellon in the Epsom Handicap. After due consideration, the stewards decided that the' crossing did not affect the result of the race, but to show that such practices cannot be countenanced, fined Defeley £25 for ,tlie offence. 1

Aborigine annexed .a good race on November 4, namely, the Williamstown Cup, of 1500 sovs., one mile and threequarters. Artillerie ran third in the same race. The winner was only third favourite, started a comparative outsider, and won by a length. He was ridden by W. H. M'Lachlan, who thus further increased his long list of cup victories. M'Lachlan won the same race last year on Kerlie. RACING FIXTURES. Nov. 12—Canterbury J.C. Metropolitan. Nov. 12.—Auckland R.C. Spring. Nov. 16 and 17—Dannevirke lt.C. Spring. Nov. 30 and Dec.
