BOXING.
WELTER-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. The "Sydney Morning Herald" chronicles the result of the second attempt ou tho part of an Australian boxer to wrest the big' title from ono of Mr. H. D. M'lntosh's. imported Americans ill the following eulogistic strain: —Cool, collected, resourceful, faultless in defence, and maijnificeiit in offenco, Jimmy Clabby, the American welter-weight, had little difficulty- in disposing of Bob Bryant, who was counted out in the seventh round, after taking delivery of a left smash, followed by a lightning, right across'which landed square on the point. Clabby claims tho welter-weight championship of the world, and, judging by his showing on this occasion, is a worthy holder. Ho is without doubt tho elevierest boy'seen in an Australian ring since tho days of Griffo. His judgment .of distance was a little at fault at timos, but- his'-won-derful cleverness always got him out of difficulties. Of Bryant it suffices to say that he put up his usual game fight, never losing heart, although he could not but have realised that tho further tho contest progressed the further. the chance •of victory was slipping from his grasp. A most prominent feature of tho contest was tho utmost good humour, with which it was waged, neither man seeking to take tho slightest unfair advantage of , the other. Friendly badinage and mutual congratulations from either combatant when the other scored stood out. in. marked contrast to tho unfair tactics which have marked the appearance of tlio majority of boxing representatives from the land of Undo Sam.
