CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD. It is interesting to note that the race is the fifty-ninth coutest of the kind that 'has been held.- The English sporting public keenly desire to see the title revert to an Englishman—on honour, which has not been held since 1876. when tho Australian Triekott deprived Sadler, the English .crack, of tho championship. .The decision to row the race on the Zambesi was due to the enterprise of .the British Small Arms Company of South Africa, which is interested in the settlement of Rhodesia. The race was contested over a three mile and a half course, between' the Rapids and Victoria. Falls. Of tho pnrso of ..£IOOO given by South African magnates, the winner was to receive '.£750 and the loser It was estimated that the expenses of the race would total •CllOO, of. which Arnst has received ,£3OO for consenting to scull in Rhodesia.
