THE ZOO.
A NEW SUPERINTENDENT. Tho following recommendation of tlio Baths and City Reserves Committee was considered, in camera, by the City Council last evening:—"The committee have to recommend that Mr. A. E. L. Bertling; superintendent of the Zoological Gardens, be informed that the council have no intention of renewing his engagement as zoo superintendent, as they intend to call for applications for tho position, as from September 30 next." The recommendation was adopted, and Councillor ShirtclifTe gave notice of motion ' that applications for the position of superintendent of tho zoo be advertised for in the principal Australian and New Zealand papers.
