LEVIN-OTAKI CIRCUIT.
■'- The quarterly meeting in'connection with the Levin-Otald Jiethociist circuit was held at the Jianaivatu ALethoilist Oiiureii last week-, when there wore present: Kers. F. C. J one's (presiding), and F. Kimd, Messrs. 11. l'rouse, J. Prouse, j. \Y. Gibson, T. Vincent, P. M. Goldsmith, D. ]ir:iid, J. Howard Andrew, A. G. Anderson, .C. 11. W illiaias, S. T. S: Goldsmith,|C T. Kussell, Frank Penn, and Georgo AV. Kirk. The balance-sheet showed a substantial surplus oil tlio quarter's working at Iho northern end of the circuit. Tho old deficit was now a very small one. The quarter had also, been a good one at the Otaki end, but, owing to extraordinary expenditure for horse, trap, etc., the balance-sheet'showed a deficit. It was resolved to take up special Homo Mission collections throughout the circuit during the current quarter. The Rqv. F. Hands and the junior circuit steward were deputed to arrange for a Foreign Missionary meeting at Ofcaki at an early dale, it beiug suggested that an effort be made to secure the Chinese Consul at Wellington to give an address for the meeting. Verbal reports on the various Sunday Schools wero satisfactory. A lnngtliy discussion took place as to taking steps to increase the efficiency of the teaching at the schools, and also re the ministers attending the schools occasionally. The resignation of Mr. AV. H.' Bennett as a society steward at Manakau, and treasurer to the Manakau Trust, was accepted with general regret, as was the resignation of Jfiss Marshall as Mission Secretary at Otaki, the appointment of successors being left to the teachers' meetings at Jlainikau and Otaki respectively. In accordance with a request by the P.ev. F. Bands, the meeting passed a resolution strongly recommending the adoption of tho "envelopo system" nf contributing at Otaki and other pirts of the circuit, where tho system is not in vogue. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Manakau on AVednesday, October 12. At tho conclusion of the meeting a supper, kindly provided by. Miss Andrew and Miss Invin, was partaken of and much appreciated.
