UNIDENTIFIED BODY. • (By Telecraoh—Press Assoclation.l Auckland, June ISU T!ie body of an unknown man was washed up on the Northcote Beach yesterday afternoon. The body, which has apparently been three or four days in the water, has not yet been identified, though in the hat deceased had been' wearing is written the name of "S. O'Caillain," or "F. O'Caillian." 'His age is between 40 and bO. WOMAN ATTEMPTS HER LIFE., Auckland, June 13. A married woman named Elizabeth Yardley attempted to .commit suicide by shooting herself in the breast,.on Saturday. She is a recent arrival from Malta, and a fe»- weeks ago underwent a serious operation. The revolver had been held in a slanting direction towards the left, with the result that the bullet followed round the rib, coming out under the left armpit. The wound is not considered serious. KAIL WAT FATALITY. . Dunedin, June 13. , At the adjourned inquest on David M'Clennan, a Wedderburn farmer, who fell off the Otago Central train, a verdict of accidental death was returned.
A. GIRL'S MYSTERIOUS DEATH. Greymouth, June 13. An inquesi was held at the Courthouse this afternoon touching the death of Minnie Glen, who was found drowned on North Beach. Mr. Crooke, S.M., acted as coroner, and the evidence of the father, brother, and. Dr. ITBrearty was taken From the evidence it appears that the only cause of annoyance to the girl was that she was made to resign her position ■ in a laundry owing ( to breaking a window. The deceased left home on May 24, and was never heard of until found on Juno 10. It was alleged that the girl was often on the whar.f and aboard the Arahura. Very cruel rumours have been in circulation about her condition at the time of her disappearance, but the doctor's evidence proved them to be absolutely false. The girl was of a bright, cheerful disposition, and much, respected. Her untimely death has caused mucn mystery. The coroner decided to adjourn the case sine die to give the police time to collect further evidence. Great sympathy is felt for her parents, who only two days before her body was recovered, had their eldest son drowned. HEART DISEASE. Greymouth, June 13. An inquest was held at Cobden ■ toucßing the death of Patrick MT)avitt, found dead in an outhouse of the Royal Hotel. The evidence showed that deceased was subject to fits, and had a weak heart. A verdict of death from heart disease wsi returned. John Wilson, Vho wag injured in the landslide at the Miramar Cutting yesterday week, is reported,by the hospital authorities to be making good progress towards recovery. ' ■ . ■, ■ '
