' The Primate, in opening the Anglican Diocesan Synod this afternoon, said it was somewhat singular, and not insignificant, that the New 'Zealand newspapers, almost with one consent, had presented the Queensland . referendum on education as a referendnm on the Bible-in-schools question. It was no •snob thing, but very much morel H4 presented the lull" test of the- ballot paper, and said it was virtually the NewSouth Wales system that was the issue, upon which over 52 per. .cent, of, the electors recorded their votes and 18,000 voted aye. v ' ■ . The Primate announced that a Dunedin. reedent bad promised .£IOOO fo wards the cathedral, and said he had reason to hope that the gentleman's business partner, who had already piomised ,£SOO, would increase Es gift to .£IOOO, while a lady had offered a contribution which, together with don* tions from her family, might be set down at another ,£IOOO.
