TRAMWAY RETURNS.
A MONTH'S FIGURES. A return of tramway revenue aud expenditure for the four weeks ended May 26 was before the Tramways Committee of the City Council yesterday. The total revenue for the four weeks shows an increase of ,£214 over the corresponding period of last year, of which .£lOl is due to the growth of the power supply business. The working expenses have ' increased, as compared with last year, by ,£215. The principal increases in expenditure are as follow:—Repairs and maintenance permanent way, £S9; power house fuel, ,£B6; printing and stationery, ,£l4; accident insurances, ,£2O; wages motonnen and conductors, ,£SB. Several items ,of expenditure show a reduction- as compared with last year. . After allowing for proportion- of inter-' est, sinking fund, and depreciation, the returns to date show a net surplns : of .£573, as compared with ,£550 last year. The total revenue for the four weeks was ,£10,516 17s. Gd., as compared with ,£10,302 Is. 7d. for the corresponding period of last year, and the total revenue for the y«ar to date .£21,475 9s. 10d., as compared with .10s. sd. The total working expenses for the nicrath. were 55., as compared with £7046 6s. 9d., and for the year to date ,£14,687 15s. 3d., as compared with ,£14,274 l£s. sd. The total number of passengers carried during the four weeks was 1,647,176, an increase of 19,829,. as compared with the corresponding period of last year. The number of passengers carried to date this year is 3,346,515, as compared with 3,309,89S for the same period of last year. The total number of car miles run for the four weeks was 169,919, as compared with 167,023. and.for the year to date 342,272, as compared with 331,922.
