WINTER RELIEF WORKS.
NOW BEGINNING. It will be remembered that the Prime). Minister stated at Winton that a num-ber-of important works were being held, over until winter when private employment would not be so plentiful. In this connection .the Hon. R. M'Kenzie (Minister for Public Works) stated yesterday that a good deal of road-making and other public works were now being put in hand. It was expected, Mr. M'lvenzie added, that these undertakings would ■ absorb many workers who were at present unemployed.
