Sub-Inspector Norwood asked for a remand till Wednesday next, stating thnt there would probably be another charge of tho same nature in connection with tho samo warehouse preferred against , accused. On the application of Mr. Y. W. Jack- ! 6on, bail waa allowed in tho Bum cf .£SO, and two sureties of .£25 eaoh. . ' AN EXPENSIVE LUNCH. Thos. Hnyes,. alias Michael Noon, was j brought forward for scntenco on a charge of stealing ;i dinner valued at Is., the ! property of Chas. Nordell. Sub-Inspector Norwood informed tho J Court that, from iniiuiries made, he hnd ] found that accused had been guilty of theft some 10 years ago, and -was then admitted to six months' probation. His Worship said that the theft of a '■ wharf labourer's lunch was a mean one. ' Accused would bo convicted and fined 205.. in default seven days' imprisonment. ; . INSOBRIETY. • Ad , ' elderly woman, Helen O'Brien, ( pleaded guilty to a charge of insobriety, and explained thnt sliq was going to leave J tho city and take a situation in which j sho promisod to refrain from drinking. | A fine of 10s. was imposed, defendant , being allowed a. week in which to pay tho fine. John O'Brien, also charged with insobriety, was fined 55., and at his own request a prohibition order wus issued ' ngainst him. ■ • ■ 1 One first offender was fined 55,, and two ! other first offenders were each convicted and discharged. .
