SUPREAME COURT.
ALICE MARY ANSTICE ON TRIAL. JURY DISAGREE. A disagreement of tho jury occurred yesterday in tho case of Alice Mary Anstice, who was charged in the Supremo Court with having performed an illegal operation. Mr. W. H. D. Bell conducted tho prosecution, and Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for the accused. When the jury returned to Court, at 6.35' o'clock, after four hours' deliberation, his Ilonnur the Chief JuKtice (Sir Rohert Stout), remarked that he hnd always regretted that the New Zealand law was unlike the Scotch law, in that it required a unanimous, and not merely a majority, verdict. A re-trial of the case was ordered for Wednesday next, and tho accused was admitted to 'bail;
