The annual, meeting of the Wairarapa Hunt Club was held this afternoon, there being a good attendance of members. The balance-sheet showed that the past year had been a most successful ' one, the steeplechase meeting resulting in a surplus of £100 os. 3d., leayiug a credit balance of £117 3s. sd. to start tho season with. Officers for the' ensuing year were elected as follow:—Patron, Mr. William Strang; president, Mr. C. F. Vallance; master, Mr. W. H. Buick; deputy-master, Mr. R. Buick; huntsman, "Mr. H. C. Bunny; committee, Messrs. W. H. Buiokj R. Buick, G. H. Perry, C. J. Bennett, F. B. Vallance, F. Evans, W. D. Watson, W. Howard Booth, Dr Archer Hosting, R. Morrison, H.Douglas, N. Douglas, and A. G. Pilmer. The following were appointed a sub-com-mittee to draw up rules for the ensuing season: —Messrs. W. H. Buick, W. Howard Booth, G. H. Perry, C. J. Bennett, and the secretary. It was decided to place £100 on deposit at the Post Office Savings Bank. Two cases of scarlet fever and one of typhoid have been reported in Masterton during the past three weeks. These are v the first cases of infectious diseases reported for five months. It is anticipated that there will beJ keen competition for the swede, turnip,' and mangold competitions to be held this season under the auspices of tho Masterton A. and P. Association. The entries . for the competitions close at the end of , the present month. The Easter Convention of Sunday School; Teachers, which commences in Masterton. on Friday, represents some 82 schools of the Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational, and Baptist Churches in the Wellington and Marlborough districts. A similar meeting was held in Masterton some >six years ago, and last year the convention met at Palmerston. Papers will be read and speeches made by experts of tlie teaching profession, while open discussion on various given topics will bo a feature of the meetings, which last through Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, winding up with an openair reunion in , the Masterton Park on .Monday. -More than 80 visiting delegates from outside the Wairarapa have arranged to be present. Last year's records of the. union show that 1049 teachers and officers are engaged, with an average attendance, of. 910, and that 10,637 ohildren are on the school rolls, with an average attendance of 7765.' Of this latter number. 1905 are stated to be over 15 years of age, and 3826, who are under eight years, are in the infant classes. The union holds examinations in Scripture knowledge each year, aiid the reports show that busy men and women give much time to the encouragement of the young people's efforts. Some 754 children last year submitted papers. The balance-sheet shows an expenditure of £56 16s. Id., largely used in prisses and printing.
