ROADS WANTED.
A COMPLAINT FROM TE AKAU. (By TeleEraph —Special Correspondent.) Auckland, March 23. Some interesting statements regarding the neglect of the Government to carry out the reading of Tβ Akau Block were mado by Mr. J. .Allen, an adjoining ■ property owner, .tea , ,' 'Herald" representative. ' Hβ states • that on the lithograph plans it was , stated that 25 out of ' tho '26 inilos of • road from- , . Ngaruawahta were' metalled, whereas'in fact only 21 miles were metalled, and it has , since been represented that this 21 miles , of metalling ■was dono by the Government, when as a. matter of fact it was done by the settlors themselves. Furthermore, the Department has graded about a mile of this metalled road, and after throwing the metal off has jnst left it, and now that the winter is coming on it is becoming impassable. , Last spring I had to pack.'goods over this portion of. the road myself after, offering the contractor £1 a ton and a pair of horses to take them for • me, and' this after having paid £2 a ton for. them over the other 22 miles. I '. want to kDow wheii this portion of the road is going to be rometalled, and also when tih'e Government is going to carry out its pledge to read the block. U the Tβ Akau Block settlors follow the advice of one M.P. they will pay no rent until reading is completed and thus make themselves felt at headquarters."
