JOTTINGS FROM WANGANUI.

"ZOO" CASE DISMISSED. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) ■ Wanganui, March 23. There-is every appearance of fine weather for the Warrengate Jockey Club's annual race meeting, which is to be held to-morrow. Good sport and a good attendance are expected.

A decision which has been awaited with some interest was given at the Police Court this morning by Mr. Kerr, S.M., when he dismissed an information against J. J. Boyd, proprietor of the Aramoho Zoo, who was charged with transacting . business in a public place on Sundays. The defence was that the zoo/was not: in a public place, also that the business was not Boyd's usual calling. Had the decision gone against Mr. Boyd it would have meant the closing of the zoo and the taking of all the animals over to Australia.

The dangers of Guyton Street railway crossing having been brought under the notice of the Minister for Railways, the latter has replied to the effect that ho is obtaining a report from his responsible officer and tho matter will have careful attention. •

After long delay, the Minister for Internal Affairs has seen fit to agree to advise his Excellency the Governor 'to annex to the Borough of Wanganui the district known as Aramoho, such annexation to take effect from Aprill, 1910. It has taken a long time to convince the Minister that a majority of the district electors in Aramoho are desiroue of obtaining municipal government. When Gonville and another suburb or two also come in (as they probably will do beforo long), than Wanganui will bo entitled, as it should.be, to rank as the fifth city in the Dominion. A shooting match takes place on Saturday between the Taranaki and the Wanganui Rides, eight men a-sido, ranges 200, 500, and 600 yards. Tho Wanganui Rifles' team will consist 'of Captain Cunningham, Colour-Sergt'. Harrison, Sergts. Anderson and Purnell, Corporal Griffiths, Bugler Sqlcr, Vols. G. Harrison and R. Smithies.
