MUSIC PASSES. (By Telegraph.—Special CorreaDondenU Palmerston North, March 10. Messrs. I. E. Bryant and C. Voss have been elected unopposed as Kairanga County representatives on the Palmerston Hospital Hoard. Sergeant Stagpoole, whose transfer from' Palmerston has been announced, has received notice to take up duty at Oamaru at the beginning of April. -Sergeant Maguire will fill the vacancy at Palmerston. Tho playing of- Mr. C. S. Pickering's orchestral band in the Square last night attracted a large number of people, who greatly enjoyed the music. ' ', Mr. A; i. secretary of Trinity College, London, has received the results of'the examinations held here in.December. They are as fol-' low:—Preparatory division (maximum 100 marks): May Griffiths, 98; Ivy May Mudford, 94; May M'Cormick, 100. International division: Christina Grant, 77; Constance H. M'Sherry, 77. While the Minister for Railways-was in Palmerston yesterday, the Mayor, Mr. J. A. Nash, took;the. opportunity of calling his attention to the accidents which have recently taken place on the railway crossings in the town. The Hon. JV A. Millar promised to have electric bells placed.at the two crossings in the Square, which will. be. set ringing from the signal box as-trains, come along. The approach of the: football 1 season was heralded :last night by. a-meeting of the Kia Toa ,fourth-class division. 0. Rush was elected' captain, L.; : -Oliver vice-cap-tain, and P.'Smyihe selector. It was,resolved to ask the Rugby Union to fix a weight-limit, the average of the fifteen not to exceed 9st. 71b. The monthly;. meeting of the Terrace End School Committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs. J.'A. Nash (chairman), Robbie, Tregurtha, Zortt, Jarrett, Lewis, and Setter. It- ; was decided to enter a strong..-protest against the. proposal of ■■ the Education Department to put down the maintenance ;grant- and stop the 9d. capitation for each pupil. The report of the . headmaster, ifr.'. P. Tairbrother, gave the. roll number as 405, with an average attendance 353. Several small works asked for in the report were authorised.. Miss K. Wilson was .• appointed pupil teacher, vice Mr. Gilligan, resigned. Mr. O'Donnell was promoted to the third assistantship vice Miss Hastings, resigned. ■'■■■'•■ ' The new steam ' laundry at ..the Palmerston Hospital began operations this week. It.is, of course, a great labour saver. . ■;, ■- - - Tho Palmerston bowlers who visited Shannon yesterday' defeated the local players by 75 points to 55. . A collision between a gig and a spring cart caused a littlo excitement in Cuba Street yesterday! The spring cart at the time was loaded with pigs, and the force of the impact had the effect of. throwing the animals to the front of the vehicle.' The" weight proved' 100 muoh for the shafts, /both of which snapped, and thie startled the horse, which ran into a motor-car standing close by. Proceedings were somewhat mixed after that, but the termination was not serious.
