SELLING HENS WITH ROUP.

A correspondent writes as follows to the Canadian Dairyman ":—" I would like to bo informed about the following: I have a number of old hens which have roup. They appear healthy in every way, and are largo I lymouth Rocks. Please lot mo know if they arc healthy enough for eating, or will tho roup condemn them? Will tho diseaso really affect a person eating them, as tho disease is apparently confined to the head and throat. Please let mo know if I would be noneit m marketing them." The editor of the " Canadian Dairyman " replies:—" This is a question of ethics which everyone must decide for himself. Take the matter home to yourself. If you would eat one of these hens as willingly as you would a perfectly healthy one, it might not inteftore with your future welfare to r-ell them. Koup is decidedly a constitutional disease, which manifests itself in the head and throat of its victim. I would not eat one of those hens, nor would I sell ono to be eaten. I would cure the roup and then sell the hens, because I do not believe a hen which has had roup ever amounts to anything afterward. Inject a solution mado of water and peroxide of hydrogen equal quantities into the nostrils and the slit in the roof of the mouth of each chicken which is afflicted and.swab the throat and face with tho same solution. I This will cure tho roup if repeated two or three times, after which there will he no question about the wholoKomenesr, of tho meat of the birds. A good rule to follow is to do as you would bo done by in such cases. This rule is nearly 2000 years old and never j'et has ajiyonc been harmed by following it."
