SWIMMING.
1 The Swifts' Amateur Swimming Club held the third and last distance (150 yards) for the C. Smith Cup at Te Aro Baths last evening. A field of fourteen turned out for the race, which was got off in one hoai, but the issuo was confined to a few when a hundred yards had been covered. G. Patterson and Freyberg fought out - the finish, and though Freyberg, from scratch, made up a lot of ground, ho could not overtake Patterson, who; won by a couple of feot, with J. Hopkirk closo up third. • Tho winner's time was 2min. 2soc. Freyberg covered the distance in tho fast time of lmin. 45sec. This' win entitles Patterson to hold the cup for tho ensuing year, ho having prp.viously, won the hundred yards, scoring in all 10 points. Other [joints scored aro: Freyberg 8, W. Dudson 3, H. Jcnkinson 3, J. Dclaney 1, J. Hopkirk 1. Points count—s for first, 3 for second, 1 for third. The race resulted as follows: —G. Patterson (15sec.), 1; Freyberg (scratch), 2; J. Hopkirk (!i3sec.), 3. Kivell (l&scc.), L. Salek (ISsGc.), E. Jcnkinson (lOscc,). After tho Swifts' raco, tho. Y.M.C.A. Swimming Club got off a 50 yards race in two heats. Tho handicapping was good, and the finishes close, particularly in tho final. Jcnkinson was leading when half tho distanco had been traversed, but Stratford and Baker then put in their claim, and tho finish was fought out between these three. Stratford beat Baker by a touch, Jcnkinson being 'a fow inches away. The results are as follow:—First heat: H. Jenkinson (Gsec.), 1; N. R. Stone (9sec.), 2; E. Alexander (oscc,), 3. Also started: J.
