Tho Prime Minister will visit Stewart Island and Bluff 'to-day. The Hon. R. M'Nab is on his way to tho South. The Hon. J. A. Millar is at Duncdin, tho Hon. G. Fowlds in Auckland, the Hon. J. M'Gowan at tho Thames, the Hon. J. Carroll at Gisborne, and the Hons. W. Hall-Jones and Dr. Findlay in Wellington. His Excellency the Governor lias consented to bo present at the breaking-up ceremony of tho Napier High Schools on tho evening of Wednesday, December 16. Mr. A. Donald, of tho Labour Department, returned yestorday morning from an official visit to Christchurch. Mr. Ernest Deacon, of the New Plymouth branch of the National Bank, has received notice of his transfer to tho Wellington office. Ho leaves New Plymouth to-morrow. Lieut.-Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, commanding the Wellington district of the Now Zealand Garrison Artillery, has been awarded tho Auxiliary Forces long service medal. Mr. C. E. Shaw, manager of the Temuka Gasworks, has been appointed engineer of tho Levin Municipal Gasworks. Ho will leave Temnka about the end of November to take up his new duties. , Mr. Fred. H. Graham, the popular comedian, writing on board tho RaU.S. Caronia, on September 3, in mid-Atlantic, states that ho is on route from Liverpool to Now York. Ho intends to tour the United States for ten weeks, and will return to Australia in January. Mr. James Weal, of Te Rahu, ono of tho earliest settlors in tho Waikato, died on Tuesday last, at the ago of 84 years. De-' ceased camo to the colony in tho ship. Queen of tho South, in 1863, and subsequently joined the 40th Regiment, taking part in tho Waikato war. Afterwards lie took up land at Te Raliu, where he resided until his' death.

Engineer Commander William Milton has been appointed to tho Powerful, flagship of Vice-Admiral Sir Richard Poore, C.131, commanding tho Australian Squadron, for special duty at Sydney. Commander Milton t was assistant-engineer of the battleship Tomeraire at tho bombardment of Aloxandria, July, 1882, and was one of the gallant band of engine-room officers, who, under Staff-Engi-neer Bourko, successfully, carried out their share of tho work in saving the cruiser Calliopo from being driven ashore at Apia, Samoa, in the dreadful hurricane of March 1G and 17, 1889, when four out of soven warships were wrecked, and IMO lives lost, and two others stranded. Undor gallant Captain Cane, tho Cn.lliopo steamed out to sea in tlin teeth of the hurricane and was saved from a liko fate.— I "British Australasian."

Our Marton correspondent wires: —The death occurred at AVangnnui to-day of Mr. Henry Westland, of Pureiri, Turakina. In June last Mr. Westland was kicked oil the forehead by a horse, and sustained the injury which caused his death.

An Auckland Press Association telegram states that Captain Sainty forwarded to the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday afternoon his resignation .of the position of deputy-harbourmaster and pilot for the port of Auckland from December 31 next. Captain Sainty lias been in the service of the board for 29 years, and is now 74 years of age.

A Christchurch Press Association telegram states that yosterday morning Superintendent E. Smith forwarded to the chairman of the Staff and Plant Committee of the Christchurch Fire Brigade his resignation of the position of superintendent of the brigade. His resignation takes effect at the end of the present year, and will be dealt with at tlie next meeting of the Firo Board. It is understood that early in next year Mr. Smith will take up an important position in Christchurch connected with firo insurance. Mr. Smith has been' a member of the Christchurch Firo Brigade for thirty and a half years, during seventeen of which his services wore given voluntarily. For ovor thirteen years Tie has been superintendent, and the work ho has done whilst in that position is well known to the citizens.
