PUBLIC WORKS TENDERS.
Tenders are now being called for the new Post Office at Auckland. When these are received, tbo Government will, perhaps, do something in the matter of the new Wellington Post Office, for which tenders closed as long ago as September 2, and were rejected as too high..Since then no new tenders have been called, and no announcement has been made of the Government's intentions in the matter. ' The authorisation made by the Cabinet in respect of the Waverley Post Office is'.for the calling of tenders for. extensive additions, the price of which will run into several hundred pounds. Tenders, will also be called for a new courthouse at I'eilding, -at a cost of about £2000, and now Post Office at Ohalcune, to cost about £700. , The- tender of Mr. \V. Howson, of New Plymouth, has been accepted for repairs, etc., to the Hawcra Post Office The contract prico is £627 13s. Messrs. Bredbury and Bastin's tender (£7OO 10s.) _ has been accepted for the erection of* a police, station at Richmond, Nelscrn. The tender of Mr. John R-enouf, of Napier, has been accepted for the erection of a new post office at Hastings. The : prico •is £5125. The declined tenders were as follow: —A. A. and R. Stanley, Hastings, £5440; Bull Bros., Port Ahuriri, £5500; W.-M. Hay and Son, Hastings, £5576; J. Garhetfc, Hastings, £3950.
