NEW ZEALAND KENNEL CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the New Zealand Kennel Club was held in tho Chamber of Commerce hall yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr. Paul Hunter (Hawke's Bay), was in the chair, , and the other delegates who attended were—Messrs. W. Ryan (Auckland), W. F. O'Donnoll (Manawatu)/J.'Solei (Wanganui), W. Baine and W. Janson (Wellington, and R. S. Menzies-(Dunedin) The balance-sheet, showing a-credit o! £31 19s. 7d., was adopted. Tho secretary reported an unsatisfactory state of affairs as far as concerned the Southlaud Fanciers' Cliib, which was considerably behind iu its registration fees. It' was agreed that the president and secretary -look into' the matter and act as they thought best, in regard\botk to the Southland'; Fanciers' Club and the Egmont A. and P. Association. | ' Officers for the year were appointedl- a' follow President, Mr. Paul Hunter (reelected); executive committee, Messrs.,: W. Ryan (re-elected), W. l'\ O'Donnell, W., Janson (re-elected), and R. S. Menzies: . lion, treasurer,' Mr. W. Janson (re-elected); hon. auditor, Mr. C. J. Salter (re-elected); secretary, Mr. H. Dovey (re-elected). The Wellington Kennel Club brought forward four notices of motion.. The first 'was: "That tho New Zealand Kennel Club be ro quested to compile a judges' list, from which list all affiliated clubs, must' select their judges. The list to bo. compiled under the following.,(or amended) conditions—(a) ■ All judges, at present acting, to be included thereon, (d) All applicants for enrolment, to bo nominated by an affiliated club, (c) Applicants from outside New Zealand to provide tho New Zealand Keunel Club with satisfactory credentials as to character-and ability." The motion was discussed and finally withdrawn'. Delegates agreed that on tliir matter the Kennel Club must be very cautious, otherwise serious complications were probable. The second notice was —"That in. view of the confusion that exists in the fancy-- as to what, constitutes a challenge class, the challenge class be defined simply as follows: (a) The first prize-winner in every class, puppy included. ' (b) To be judged again in the ring after the ordinary class competitors, (c) The winner to receive £1 prize-money in addition ■ to class prize-money, (d) A dog under 12 months to bo eligible for one challenge- certificate only during his or her puppyliood." Clauses -(c) and (d) were • deleted; a new clause (o) was added—"lf the Executive Committee- approve, , winners of challenge classes may be awarded challenge certificates, applications to bo endorsed-by the secretary of the club at whose show the win is socured," and the motion as amended was car* ried. . _ ' The other two notices of motion were withdrawn. Auckland Kennel Club introduced a motiol to alter rule 21 to read:, "Four challenge classes for four different breeds of dogs of both sexes shall be allotted to different clubi holding champion shows, and shall be allotted by the executive in the proportion to the number of affiliated clubs in, the North and South Islands, but no. club shall be entitled to have challenge classes for the same broeds in any two consecutive years, am! that no dogs undor twelve months be eligible for competition." An amendment was car ried recommending that the rule should provide for two challenge classes for each breed, to be allotted annually.
