EVANS BAY RECLAMATION.
: : MIR AMAH'S SHARE. : • The Evans Bay reclamation scheme was r» ferred to at a meetiiig of tho Miramar Bop ough Council last evening. The Mayor, Mr. C. J. Crawford,, said, that, in accordance with the' Wellington Harbour Board Empowering Bill, which had now becomo law, a poll or ratepayers must be-, taken within six months to authorise the loan. If a poll were taken within. three months, there would be time left for a second poll if the first result won adverse. It was necessary now to negotiate properly with the large landowners, who. they had roason to believe/, would contribut' part of tho £5000 which the council hat guaranteed to pay to the Harbour Board on completion of the works. He now proposed, "That negotiations bo opened with the landowners interested in tho Wellington Harboui Board works at Evans Bay, with a view to their contributing portion of the amount t( bo paid by „ the borough to the board, and that the necessary- stops bo taken to raise the amount required by way of a special loan." .. . Councillor Witt seconded the motion. • In reply, to a question, tho Mayor said the idea was that the ratepayers would expect that some of the . large landowners would subscribe a fair proportion of the £5000, and it was proposed to get deeds signed by them for the amount , they contributed, and then go to the ratepayers for the balance required. ' Tho motion was carried.
