PAHIATUA.
At the monthly meeting of the Pahiatua County Council, held on Saturday last, an application from Mr. R. Chase-Morris, sawmiller, to be allowed to pay an annual fee to the council in lieu of maintaining tho Marima-Mangamaire Road was left ,in the hands of the. chairman and Councillors Smith and Cornelius to be dealt with. Mr. H. Shanks's s application for £10 16s. compensation for loss of .time while shifting trams from one road to another was received. Notification was received from tho Agricultural Department that tho African box thorn had been, declared a noxious weed. The Roads Department wrote that tho grant of £65 for expenditure on the-Ohinereata Road was still available,, and it was decided to spend this amount, together .with tho accrued thirds, on the road. - The same Department could not comply' with tho council's request for the use of an engineer to take tho levels of several proposed small bridges. The health inspector reported the health of the district as generally good. Mr. G. S. Milne, of Masterton, was appointed county engineer. Accounts amounting to £523 Bs. 7d. wero passed .for payment.
